Musk's booming SpaceX aerospace business is developing Starships and is actively preparing to colonize Mars in case of a global disaster on Earth.
Dmitry Rogozin, head of Roscosmos, dismissed Musk's plan as "ridiculous" and more like a "gimmick".
"Our mission is to leave our children and grandchildren with a clean natural environment and a planet suitable for human development," he said. "It is not to make an escape plan and send the selected people to a lifeline planet wearing transparent helmets."
Rogozin revealed that the Russian state space group in recent years will fully build a satellite group, for the earth's ecological monitoring, carbon dioxide emission reduction.
Russian experts are already designing satellites that can detect ecologically harmful behaviors, including carbon dioxide emissions.
